Factor by grouping.

Alexis1415:

Okay so basically, x^3+2x^2-9x-18=0 Factor: (x+2) (x+3) (x-3) = 0 x+2=0: x= -2 x+3=0: x=-3 x-3=0: x=3 So out solutions are: x= -2, x= -3, and x=3 Hope this helps!

UkuleleGirl:

That was right, but I don't understand where you got Those numbers to factor out. Can you explain a bit more where you got them from

Okay so basically, (x+2) is from the 2x in "x^3+2x^2-9x-18=0" (x+3) is from the "x^3" that was in the problem.

UkuleleGirl:

yes but where did you get the x-3 from?

UkuleleGirl:

Did you take the square root of 9 to get that?

Yes, since it is "-9" and I used the square root and made it negative.

UkuleleGirl:

oh ok. Yes that makes sense. Thanks for the help
