Antartica is the coolest , driest continent on Earth, and only a few species survive i's harsh elements. Yet scientists have found fossils of green fern plants n Antartica. Based on these findings, which of these is the best conclusion? 1.The climate of Antartica changed over time. 2.The Location of Antartica has always been at the South Pole. 3. These fossils are of an organism that adapted in Antartica over time. 4. This species could currently exist in Antartica if there was less competition.
What do you think the answer is?
To be honest I think it's A in my opinoin
Good choice. Let's look at each of the possible answers.
Okay!
A seems logical so far... The climate in Antarctica has changed over time.
B, however...
I don't know much about the South pole
The location of where Antarctica is does not have anything to do with the south pole. Antarctica is in the South Pole, but that doesn't really change anything else.
C seems slightly reasonable, but, if the plants changed over time, wouldn't they most likely still be around today?
Yes they would but would there be more if the plants changed over time?
Wouldn't*
There would be more if the plants changed over time.
Due to natural selection, traits in different species' DNA adapt to the environment. The species that aren't ready for that specific area don't survive, and eventually go extinct.
D is also somewhat reliable, but...
Ohhhhhhhhh
So it's like a cycle?
With trees that are packed within one another, there would be competition.
Like people we die but then comes a new generation
It is sort of a cycle.
of other people
I made a diagram of it.
Like how the wooly mammoth couldn't survive a warm world. They were meant for the Ice Age.
0-0
I thought they were meant to be there
They survived during the Ice Age, but couldn't survive after it was over.
4. This species could currently exist in Antartica if there was less competition.
This answer doesn't really make that much sense.
There wasn't that much competition... they were only smaller plants.
Also, something would have survived competition IF THE COMPETITION even happened.
Okay I have 2 thought 1.a I think it's A because when climat changes there becomes new growth and old growth goes away and does it over and over and over again 2. I think it might be D becuase like anmals might eat the plants? or humans come into Antartica and observer the plants
Well, they are fossils. At least thousands of years old.
Sorry I typed so slow I had a few typoes
Yes
Based on the info, I would say A.
Also, there weren't really any animals.
P bears seals apenguins and i gues that's all
If there were animals, the question would also have a better chance of saying "green fern plants AND animals."
And fish
I am not sure if they would go that far north/south, however.
Even polar animals have their limits, lol.
Yes so Answer is A in mine and your opinion?
In my opinion, the other answers make less sense.
Yes indeed
So A is the best way to go!
let me know if it is right/wrong! Have a good day!
thank you sorry I had to chop limes ;(
But thank yo so much for spending 25 or more minutes of your time with helping me it really meant alot!!!
