Shadow:

What do you think?

TETSXPREME:

i would say D

TETSXPREME:

but i dont really know for sure i only say D because their is no -

Shadow:

|dw:1644192623521:dw| If only positive values could be functions, then this wouldn't be a function

Shadow:

Ever heard of the vertical line test?

Zayne2001:

yeah

TETSXPREME:

yeah make a straight line and see if it passes it

Shadow:

Well particularly for functions, you can use this to test if a line is a function. Draw a vertical line through various points on the graph, and if it intersects the line more than once, then it isn't a function.

Shadow:

That's because two different y intercepts would be giving the same x intercept, which means it isn't a function.

TETSXPREME:

So either b or c

TETSXPREME:

i forgot whichs one x and y

Shadow:

Just read the axis points

TETSXPREME:

y= straight x=down?

Shadow:

Oh

Shadow:

Y is vertical (up and down), x is horizontal (left and right)

TETSXPREME:

ooh its C?

Shadow:

If two points have the same y value, it would look like this. |dw:1644193024765:dw| They have the same 'elevation' or they're on the same floor of the building.

Shadow:

Or a better analogy would be, you're looking for people that are in the same building, but one different floors. Not in different buildings, but the same height or floor level.

TETSXPREME:

but they have the same y

Shadow:

Y is up and down

TETSXPREME:

yea and they are on the same line for up and down

Shadow:

For the question graph?

TETSXPREME:

TETSXPREME:

yea

Shadow:

Yeah but are they at the same elevation

TETSXPREME:

which would make it c

Shadow:

Think about it for a second. Your house has two floors. Your brother is directly below you and on the first floor. You're on the second floor. You both have the same x coordinate. But you have a different y coordinate, because you're higher up.

Shadow:

|dw:1644193350738:dw|

Shadow:

Same point on the x axis, two different points on the y axis

TETSXPREME:

oooh so only half is x? and half is y?

Shadow:

I guess that's one way of thinking of it. Y is vertical axis, x is horizontal axis.

TETSXPREME:

ohh so b

Shadow:

Correct

TETSXPREME:

thanks you sm

Shadow:
