Kenton buys a calculator from an electronics store. When he gets it home, he finds it does not work. He goes to return the calculator at the store for a full refund, but the store's policy does not accept returns of calculators. Kenton was not informed of the no-return policy at the time of the purchase. Have Kenton's consumer rights been violated? Why or why not?

Hi and welcome to QuestionCove! It's an interesting question; on the one hand, Kenton was sold a faulty product and was not able to make an informed purchase because he was not informed of the no-return policy when he bought the calculator. On the other hand, the consumer does have a responsibility to inform themselves before making a purchase. In this case, I think that Kenton's rights to be informed and rights to be compensated for unfair practices may have been violated, but one could also make an argument that Kenton did not exercise the responsibility of making himself aware before his purchase. Though the question states that "Kenton was not informed of the no-return policy...", it is not explicit that the policy was concealed from Kenton, and it is possible he could have found out with reasonable effort. Though I have my opinion, I think you should take the information given and make your own judgment based on what you think :)
