What was the government's purpose for creating "day schools"? A. to give American Indian youth the best education so they could improve the quality of life on reservations B. to strip American Indians of their culture so they would adapt more easily to mainstream America C. to teach American Indians about white society in hopes that they would go home and teach their elders D. to learn about American Indians' culture and traditional ceremonies in hopes of appeasing their hostility
I think it's c
If I remember correctly
Okay firstly we have to think of when this happened, which was around the 1830s-1840s. We can note that the American government had no care for American Indians whatsoever. That eliminates A & D. The US government is known for stripping the Natives of their culture and well being + forcing them to go to Indian Boarding Schools, such as Carlisle Indian Industrial School. - that's what option B basically is. Option C is basically saying that the teaching of white society was optional. As we know, it was not. This one says that the government hoped the younger ones would teach the older ones about white society. This however wouldn't work in a government that punishes their native population. So which answer do you think best fits the question? B or C?
Tbh i think the answer is C
ya i also think its C
