d?

yomomalikebracobama:

hi r u mod and r u gonna help?

Shadow:

Yes and maybe. The water rising was "14 inches higher than Thursday in the Sunday flooding." This is an example of D, where I am providing a quote without a citation. Whether if it quote this information or paraphrase it, it would still be incorrect to provide the information without a citation.

yomomalikebracobama:

hmmm im kinda slow ima read it a couple times

Shadow:

Try to think of when people use quotes in general. Why would they use a quote?

yomomalikebracobama:

well i wouldnt say d is right tho

yomomalikebracobama:

because a theme comes from the author right?

Shadow:

But if you provide a quote, you would need to cite it.

yomomalikebracobama:

yes

yomomalikebracobama:

wait so instead of a quote u just give them the link to the site or am i misunderstanding d

Shadow:

Like if you wrote a groundbreaking paper on the movement of penguins, and I was reporting on it live on TV. Say I used a quote from your paper, but I didn't cite it or give you credit. Would you be happy about that? Is academically professional?

yomomalikebracobama:

NO bc that was my work

Shadow:

Exactly. So D doesn't make sense, bc you're providing someone's work without giving them credit.

yomomalikebracobama:

ohh ok i get that now

yomomalikebracobama:

a would be wrong to right?

Shadow:

A is the definition of plagiarism xd

Shadow:

D is basically a switched around wording of plagiarism.

yomomalikebracobama:

btw i just noticed i was looking at the wrong screen shot this whole time

yomomalikebracobama:

but i get that a and d are just wrong

yomomalikebracobama:

i think its b tho

Shadow:

I won't give you the answer but try to reread this.

yomomalikebracobama:

i wold say b makes sense in this case and would be my answer

Shadow:

So if you're writing a paper on lion prides in Africa, and you don't understand a source about it. The solution is to just quote sentences from it?

yomomalikebracobama:

o that makes no sense if you dont understand it

Shadow:

Yeah, a paper is supposed to be your argument that you're trying to convince the reader with. If you include a couple sentences of something you don't even understand, how is your paragraph or essay going to be cohesive and flow off of each other?

yomomalikebracobama:

c would however i think make sense if they explain it better than you could its better to use ""

Shadow:

I would agree. People quote people like Ghandi and MLK partially because they said some things just perfectly. I couldn't improve on it so we'll use their words.

yomomalikebracobama:

alr thanks!

Shadow:

You're welcome
