wetsocks:

Researchers showed horror movies at various lengths to college students to measure anxiety. The independent variable is ______? and the dependent variable is _____?

Renne:

Can you provide the numbers, please?

wetsocks:

There are not any. It is a psychology question,

Renne:

Alright, let me have a look and see how I can accomplish this task.

Renne:

In a research study, college students were shown horror movies of varying lengths to measure their anxiety. The independent variable (IV) in this study would most likely be the length of the horror movies shown to the students. With that being said that would mean that the dependent variable (DV) would be the level of anxiety endured by the students after viewing and watching the movies.

wetsocks:

thanks queen

Could you explain where you got your sources?

Yes, Google, and Some of the information was my own. Not all of it.

She isn't directly citing Google as a source...they got the info from Google, and Google quick cites the info

supie:

but you’re supposed to site the source you actually used. saying google does nothing

umm:

Google is surely not a reliable source. Sources refer to a certain website/link, and specific ones related to psychology are either set from .gov or .edu. Anyways, for the question, I think anxiety (or panic) is definitely one of the sources while watching horror movies. It's because of the rate the movie may be going, unpredictiment and uncertainty, which is certainly (IV) independent variable because your emotion changes within how the movie plays out. Dependent variable (DV) is how it's played out. Anxiety levels decreases, and often people are either struck with fear and/or being paranoid after watching a horror film. Precisely like having a nightmare. At first we're startled, then it subsides over time of getting aware of our surroundings.
