solve: y^2/3=64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=64^(3/2)=8^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y= 16?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the choices are +512 or +16 or 16 or 512 the last two are listed without positvie sign but dont have a neg either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, -8^3 works as well. 8^3 is 512, by the way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is your question y^2*1/3=64 or y^(2/3)=64?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would i chose +512 or just 512

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think there's a difference unfortunately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its y^(2/3)=62

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = \[y=\sqrt([3]{63}) then ^2 \it\], i agree no plus or minus,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the answer is 512 or -512. Either one works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean 64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but mirwiz has right answer and order of operation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i figure im ganna go with just 512

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah... I guess so. That's stupid. 512 is the same as +512.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know idk y its a choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i also had another similar question z^(3/2) = 64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's the same thing as (z^(1/2))^3=64. z^(1/2)=64^(1/3)=4 z=16. -16 is not a solution here because you can sqrt a negative number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wut bout (w+1)^(3/2)=64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The same thing, except you subtract 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from 64?
