It's been a long time since I have done hyperbola's, but I believe you have to complete the square, if that rings any bells for you?
I completed the square and got it down to 9(x-2)^2 -1(y+3)^2 = -5. After this I am supposed to divide each term by -5 correct? If I divide the first term by that it comes to be 9/-5... that doesn't seem right
Yes, as it has to equal 1. and it will be [1(y+3)]/5 - [9(x-2)/5] = 1, which I think is the correct form of a hyperbola (one is negative?)
so then the center is (2, -3) and a is square root -5 and b is square root 5 so 2.23? I have to find the foci and vertices and graph it also.
