need help with a probabilility question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

98% of those who have HIV test positive while 1.5% who do not have HIV test positive. Heterosexuals without risk of HIV have an infection rate of .02% What is the probability that a random person in this group would test positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it should say 99.8%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think this question has enough information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, 99.8% of HIV positive patients test positive 1.5% who are non HIV positive still test positive and .02% of Heterosexuals are HIV positive What is the probability that a random person in this group would test positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sorry, I have never used this I will type in exactly what I have Regarding the Elias Test for HIV. Assume the test returns a positive result for 99.8% of those with the HIV virus and that when the test is given to those not infected it returns a positive result 1.5% of the time. Heterosexuals without specific risk factors for HIV have an infection rate of about .02%. What is the probability that a random person in this group would test positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anybody got this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a conditional probability, you have to use bayes formula, also draw a tree diagram to make sense of the probabilities and its compliments

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure I know what you are talking about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will have to check in later

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use Bayes formula of reverse probability ans will be 196/15193
