Why is it that an ionic material can be a good conductor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that in solution, the material would be comprised of ions (cations and anions) that can easily ferry electrons

An ionic material in solid form is normally an insulator but sometimes it conduct heat and electricity by using a phenomenon called ionic conduction. In solution or liquid form ionic materials are pretty good conductors of electricity because of ionic mobility.
