If the pH of a solution decreases by 3.1, how much does the hydrogen ion concentration change? Does the change make the solution more acidic or more basic?
wat was the pH value before?
It has been a while but I will give it a try. Lets say that the pH was at 7 meaning that the hydrogen ion concentration was 1.0E-07. Then if the pH drops 3.1 the new pH will be 3.9 which means that the hydrogen concentration is 1.3E-04. Any drop in pH causes the hydrogen ion concentration to increase. If the pH goes below 7 then it becomes acidic if the drop in pH gives a new concentration above 7 the hydrogen ion concentration is higher but the solution is still basic.
my answer options for this are decreases by a factor of 31; more basic, increases by a factor of 31; more acidic, decreases by a factor of 1259; more basic, or increases by a factor of 1259; more acidic
