Hooke's Law. The distance d when a spring is stretched by a hanging object varies directly as the weight w of the object. If the distance is 23 cm when the weight is 3 kg, what is the distance when the weight is 5 kg?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

38.333333cm. Hooke's law is F=kx where F is force and k is the spring constant and x is the displacement (or distance). you know 3 kg as a mass and F=ma. 3kg*9.81m/s2 (acceleration due to gravity) and you know .23 m at that mass. solve for k and get 127.956.... now solve for x F/k=x and just plug away using F=5kg*9.81m/s2 and your k value :)

and on all your other questions just do m*9.81m/s2 and plug and chug.
