Can you have a triangle with the sides of 3, 8 and 12?

Yes, but not in a metric space and thus not in an euclidean space like the plane. Because there the triangle inequality holds for side-lengths a,b and c of a triangle: \[a + b \geq c\]

no no two sides sum is not greater than the 3rd side should be in order to form a trangle

pineda is correct, if 12 is the longest side; then 3+8 = 11 and it willl never even have a chance to reach the other side.
