A step-down transformer has a turn ratio of 6:1. A 240 volt alternating current supply at a frequency of 50 Hz is connected to the primary coil. What is the frequency of the AC output?
This is the single phase transformer and work it as the single phase transformer. In transformer like this we only give consider the ratio of the volt one to the volt two and this is direct proportional to the ratio number of turn for one and number of turn two.and the currant is the also is the proportional but it order of the ratio is the opposite where currant two is the numerator and currant one is the denominator . so the answer is 240\[\div\]V2\[=\]6\[\div\]1 there f or the answer is 40V. this is the step down tranformer.
I understand that and got that but it says find the FREQUENCY of the ac output, but I have no idea how frequencies are linked to transformers. I assume it is the number of cycles/ turns per second. These are the answer options given: a 0.2 Hz b 5 Hz c 50 Hz d 500 Hz
Ask yourself: what would change the frequency? Voltages change because of the ratio of windings, but what would cause the frequency to change?
I dont know .. the amount of current flowing?
Hmm .. does that mean that the frequency stays the same cos only the voltage get changed, not the current?
No, the frequency doesn't change thru transformer
the frequency it doesn't change, for is is the turn of a conductor in the minute through a magnetic flux. so if the currant is produce at 50 hz will remain 50 hz except if you convert it back to direct currant.so the same input will be the same out put of the frequency.
Ahh .. thanks for you help :)
