A club with 33 members is to select five officers (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian). In how many ways can this be done?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

33x5=165 ways

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry incorrect, that is only right if one member can hold all the positions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol sorry, thats why i need help too :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

otherwise u need to account for the loss of options as each position is filled, so it would be 35 + 34 +33 +32 +31

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry make those multiplication signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a certain formula set up for this but i have hard time remembering which one i think it is the nCr one if u know what that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the question is, how many ways 5 people can be chosen from 33, it's n choose k, or 33 choose 5, or 33!/(5!(33-5)!), if you have to factor in the positions, multiply that by how many ways you can arrange 5 people, cards, whatever, 5!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if that wasn't clear, permutation (what position each person has matters) is 33!/(33-5)!, combination (position doesn't matter) is 33!/((33-5)!5!)
