wat is the rise and the run of a slope ??
it is the change in ((y2-y1)/(x2-x1))
better yet M=((y2-y1)/(x2-x1))
yea but how do i find the rise and the run on the graph ?
Pick 2 known points on the graph. make sure they are clearly defined at the points you pick. If possible i always use the point of origin (0,0) but you can always use that. after you have your 2 known points subtrack the y values and point in in the numerator slot and the x values and put it in the denomator slot and this will give you yoru M value, or slope, or your rise over run.
alright, now how do i know if its a positive or a negative?
If the line is sloping upward from left to right, so the slope is positive (+).
and If the line is sloping downward from left to right, so the slope is negative (-).
does that answer your question?
Starting at the top of the graph, if it runs from the left to the right like \ then it is negative, but if it runs from the right to the left as you go towards the bottom like / then it is positive.
you are going to find out when you subtract the values of your known points.
thankyou, but im still alittle confused about which is the rise and which is the run :S i can do the formula which is m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) but i dont get the rise/run thing on a line graph could u please explain ?
Rise is the vertical change (y2-y1) and run is the horizontal change (x2-x1).
and you always measure it to the y axis?
pretty sure yes
alright thankyou so much :D !
