The trip was only 200 miles, so Bob and Rita rode at 25 mph for a while. Then they doubled their speed for the last part of the trip, so that the total time for the journey would be 5 hours. How far did they drive before they increased their speed?

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

velocity = distance/time.so time = distance/velocity.Now let us assume that for some distance x they rode at 25mph.So the time taken to travel the distance x is x/25. Now for the later part i.e (200-x) they rode at 50 mph.So the total time taken to travel the last part i.e 200-x is (200-x)/50 Nw the total time taken is (x/25) + ((200-x)/50) = 5 solve for x in this equation. That gives you the distance travelled before they increased their speed
