phospholipids are class of lipids and are a major component of all cell membranes as they can form lipid bilayers. Most phospholipids contain a diglyceride, a phosphate group, and a simple organic molecule such as choline; one exception to this rule is sphingomyelin, which is derived from sphingosine instead of glycerol
Phospholipids have 2 "sides" as well. The lipid tails are hydrophobic and don't mix with water, and the phosphate "heads" are hydrophilic and do mix with water.
consists of phosphate head, which is hydrophilic and a lipid tail, which is hydrophobic, thus they tend to be polarized. it regulates the movement of substances and molecules within the cell
