i know it seems long but it the info being given :S please help, thanks :) A branching plant has stems, nodes, leaves and buds. -there are 7 leaves at each node and at each node, 2 new stems grow. at the end of each final stem, there is a bud one plant with 3 stages of nodes has 15 stems, 7 nodes, 49 leaves and 8 buds. qs: how do i show that the number of leaves on one of those plants with n stages of nodes there are? a formula given is 7(2^n-1) thanks :)

oh pretty long

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i kno, but its the info

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry this s damn complicated but still i l think n when i cm up with an ans i wl tel u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its alright thanks tho sweetznchillz, at least you bothered to try :)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok well looks like you have the formula already this might help you understand where it comes from there is an original bud which yields a stem which yields a node. This node produces 1 bud, 2 stems and 7 leaves (stage 1) those 2 stems each produce a node which produce 1 bud,2 stems and 7 leaves this is stage 2 and so on Leaves diagram: 3 stages 49 leaves 7 7 7 7 7 7 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for that answer i have to draw something similar to this???

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

im not sure, do they want you to use the formula to answer a question or do you have to describe the whole process

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the actual qs says: show that the number of leaves on one of these plants with n stages of nodes is 7(2^n-1)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok then yes use the diagram notice each stage can be represented as power of 2 stage 1: 2^0 stage2: 2^1 stage 3: 2^2 sum = 2^3 - 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks you

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no problem
