What are the increasing, decreasing, minimum, and maximum of this equation: (2)/(x^2-2x-3)
the denominator is (x-3)(x+1) so you can see now that it will change signs at 3 and -1 has no mimimum and no maximum.
oh ok, so what is the increasing and decreasing?
ohh ok, it is increasing till -1, (at -1 it has no value) than decreases till 3 (where it again has no value) and it decreases after that too. There are jumps in this function. try to draw it. I have it in my head now, but it would help.
ok so tell me if this is right: increasing: (-infinity,-1) decreasing:(infinity,3) minimum:none maximum:none
decreasing (-1, infinity) and at 3 it jumps up from -infinity to +infinity
hold on, im a bit confused so decreasing is: (-1,infinity) what is increasing?
what you wrote increasing: (-infinity,-1)
just think about values of the functions and where it changes signs
ok so tell me if this is right: increasing: (-infinity,-1) decreasing:(-1,infinity)
yep!
is this a homework? :)
im studying for a test
and are you sure that there is no min and max?
yes
