1 molecule of a compound contains six carbon atoms, 2*\[10^{-23}\] g of hydrogen and 16 * \[10^{-23}\] g of other atoms.the gram molecular mass of the compound is? a. 180 g b. 174 g c. 138 g d. 114 g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 6 C atoms would be 72 amu. since 1g of H would be 6.02x10^23 amu; 2x10^-23 g would be 12 amu. same logic for the other atoms would be 96 amu = 180 amu for the molecular mass. gram molecular mass is the mass of one mole, so 180g.

thank u very much...how to calculate amu of other atoms..please help!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a proton is about 1 amu, so is a neutron. The atomic mass (found on the periodic table) is roughly the mass of each atom in amu. The MASS NUMBER is more specifically the mass of an atom in amu. An atomic mass is the average of all isotopes, but the mass number is specific to each isotope. Like carbon-13. It weighs 13 amu, because it has 6 protons and 7 neutrons.

thank you!!!
