Hydrogen bonding is an intermolecular bond that forms when hydrogen is attached to a highly electronegative atom.

Oh sorry, it didn't come up with a notification. In a water molecule, the oxygen atom is much more electronegative than the hydrogen atoms so the electrons are more likely to be near the oxygen atom than they are to be near the hydrogen atoms. This called a charge separation. We say that the oxygen has become partially negative and the hydrogens partially positive, we use the greek letter delta (\(\delta\)) to denote this. This happens in all water molecules so the oxygen of one molecule is attracted to the hydrogens of another, so they have hydrogen bonds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hydrogen-bonding-in-water-2D.png
