How will you justify that ice, water and steam are the three states of a substance and not different substances?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ice, water and steam (these 3) are 3 different states of the same substance water \[H _{2}O\]. Matter exists in 3 states-solid, liquid, gas. Each molecule of an element/compuod has some definite physical/ chemical properties, which differentiate them from molecules of other element/compoud. these properties are used in differentiating them from other materials and separating them from their ores.

The physical and chemical properties will differ the three states of matter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The individual water molecules in ice, liquid water, and steam are all identical. The molecular shape, physical and chemical properties of the H2O molecules do not differ from state to state.
