I am trying to solve the problem: 3(2-4)(squared) + the absolute value of 2-5 Sorry I don't know how to use the subscript for the squared.

do what is inside the parens first, so 2-4. 3(-2)^2 + abs(2-5) ---> I fixed inside the parens 3(4) + abs(2-5) ---> I applied the exponent to (-2) 12 + abs(2-5) ---> I multiplied out the left side 12 + abs(-3) ---> I fixed inside the parens on the right side 12 +3 =15 ---> I took the absolute value of (-3), which is three, and added it to 12. final: 15

So you don't multiply the 4 by the exponent?
