4 units

The two cyclists go at speed S for 2 hrs. Hence both cover distances 2s. The distance between them is root of 2(2s)^2 by pythagoras thm is 2s(root2) comparing 2s=8 s=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if each bicyclist is going at a speed x, then each of them would go a distance of 2x miles in 2 hours. so \[(2x)^{2}+(2x)^{2} = (8\sqrt{2})^{2} \rightarrow 8x ^{2}=128 \rightarrow x ^{2}=16 \rightarrow x =4\]

so each cyclist is going at 4 mph
