The intensity I (measured in watts/m2) of a sound system at a rock concert is measured at 1 watt/m2 on the first night. If it is measured at 1 100 watt/m2 on the second night, what difference will it make to the intensity level β (measured in decibels)?

Becomes twice

OpenStudy (radar):

Is that second measurement 1/100 or 100? The 1 above the 100 is confusing.

OpenStudy (radar):

assuming 100 watt per square meter, the second night shows an increase in watts per square meter of 100 times what you measured the first night. dB = 10 log p(2)/p(1) dB = 10 log 100/1 dB = 10 log 100 dB= 10 X 2= 20 dB or a 20 db increase on the second night

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 1/100

OpenStudy (radar):

Then it would be 20 dB down.

Thank you:)
