estudier.... I need you
wt hapnd?
I need help from the master. lol
html1618 is pretty good as well:-)
pfft. lol
A graph of a function f is shown. find f(2).. How do I do it?
Well, I can't see it but f(2) means the value at x = 2.
draw a vertical line upward frm x = 2, and from the point it meets the graph, draw a horizontal line to the y-axis. The value where it touches the y-axis is the value of f(2)
yes but I dont have a clue what I am looking for on this graph
first look for x=2 on the x-axis
found it?
yep
You wouldn't happen to have an equation to go with the graph, would you?
nope
I can tell you points on the graph
What does it look like?
Spanglish.. lol the points are (0,4) (-0.9,2.641) (-1.4,-1.824) (2,-4) (2.7,-3.587)
That (2,-4) looks good...
I'm sorry him1618, I don't see where.
fdget what i said...
its either A) -4, B)-1.34 C) 2.1 D)1
If you look at your list of points, you have a (2,-4) which means (x,y) is (2,-4) so...?
I have no idea.
OK, the graph is just the list of points, so (2,-4) is the point where x is equal to 2 and y is equal to -4, with me so far?
yes
Can you see that point on the graph?
when I draw a line up from 2 to intersect with one I draw from -4?
The x's go from left to right, minus to plus and the y's go from top to bottom, minus to plus (The two lines crossing at (0,0) in the middle somewhere). So you go along x until you get to 2 and then you go straight DOWN until you see -4 at the left (there should be a point (2,-4) there. If you can't see it, I will do a picture...
I see that. But how do I go from there?
Well, remember, you said you wanted the value of f(2). All that means is what is y when x is 2. Well, you just found it.
Ok, I gave you a list of my answer options.. none of them make sense to me if I am understanding what you say
You have (2,-4) ie when x is 2, y is -4 so f(2) is -4 (your option A, I think)
O.. I misread I was thinking it said 4. Sorry, now I feel like a real idiot. Forgive me?
No problem, do you understand now how to "read" the graph?
I think I can, I think I can.. Only one more problem on this worksheet and 2 chapter sections tonight!!! We'll see if I got it or not. Thank you so much!
Just before you run off, what is f(2.7)?
7?
It's in your list of points as well as on the graph...
-4?
"Spanglish.. lol the points are (0,4) (-0.9,2.641) (-1.4,-1.824) (2,-4) (2.7,-3.587)" -4 is close enough, you can see in the list it is actually -3.587 Good luck with the rest of your work:-)
Thanks again!!!!
