how do i find the x intercept of this function: x^4-12x^3+48x^2-64x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it y= all of that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes y= all of that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, not too hard, since the x-intercept will always happen when y=0, just set the lefthand side equal to 0 and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, not too hard huh, can you do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, it's 0 if x is 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=0 is one solution. FOr the remaining, solve: x^3-12x^2+48x-64 = 0

Testing by Rational Root theorem (after factoring x) gives possible roots of plus minus 1,2,4,8,16,32,64 That turns up 4. Now you've only got a quadratic to worry about.
