You're looking for two numbers, a and b, that multiply to get -9 and add up to get 0.

It does equal zero :) . As long as you have two numbers that multiply together to get -9 and add up to get 0, you have the right numbers. We just fill in (x-3)(x+3) and we're done!

r^2+0*r-9 find two factors of -9 that multiply to be -9 and add up to be 0 -3(3)=-9 and -3+3=0 r^2-3r+3r-9 factor by grouping r(r-3)+3(r-3) (r-3)(r+3)
