What is Atomic Mass

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atomic mass or atomic weight is the average mass of atoms of an element, calculated using the relative abundance of isotopes in a naturally-occurring element. In fact, the atomic mass is the total mass of protons, neutrons and electrons in a single atom. However, since the mass of the electrons is negligible in comparison, therefore we say mass is the sum of the masses of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus of the atom.

Take oxygen for example... Its atomic number i.e. number of protons and electrons is 8. So it has 8 protons and 8 neutrons in its nucleus as its atomic mass is 8 + 8 = 16
