Give an eg. of an atom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oxygen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Deuterium

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everything that has a defined atomic number and is electrically neutral (if not, it is an ion)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all the elements which u see in the periodic table are atom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u will nt find any molecule example N2,O2.Cl2, etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are elements not atom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry i read the queastion wrong..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An atom a fundamental piece of matter. (Matter is anything that can be touched physically.) Everything in the universe (except energy) is made of matter, and, so, everything in the universe is made of atoms. An atom itself is made up of three tiny kinds of particles called subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and the neutrons make up the center of the atom called the nucleus and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud. The electrons carry a negative charge and the protons carry a positive charge. In a normal (neutral) atom the number of protons and the number of electrons are equal. Often, but not always, the number of neutrons is the same, too. eg: carbon-12 atom

Thank you

josephjoshy: You're not completely wrong and I think you know this but I have to say it: an atom is not a fundamental piece of matter and not everything is composed of atoms. What about plasma? Sometimes it can be important in chemistry.
