a manufacturer of medical supplies produces 1 liter bags of saline solution. the cost to produce x thousand bags of saline is given by the cost function C(x)=1.7x^2-5.3x+3.2, where c is the cost in thousands of dollars. find the cost to produce 4000 units?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitution x =4000\[C=(1.7 \times 4000^2)-(5.3 \times 4000)+32.\]\[C= 27.200.000-21.200+32\]\[C=27.178.834\]use calculator check my answer

i got the same answer but my professor's answer was $9200 which is i dont get ...

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

x is in thousands so to produce 4000 bags means you use x = 4 in the cost function C(4) = (1.7*16) - (5.3*4) + 3.2 = 9.2 C(x) is in thousands of dollars so C(4) = 9.2 means it cost $9,200
