how long does it take a population of bacteria to double?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it quadruples in 6.82 hours

You should be given the rate constant of the bacteria, and then plug in 2 for the amount to be able to calculate the time it takes. Use this equation: P=Ae^(kt). In this example P (your principle amount) would be 1, and A the final amount would be 2. Then use the rate constant to solve this problem. You will need to use the ln (natural log) to find the time.
