If a neutral atom has a mass of 12 amu and an atomic number of 5, determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in the atom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atomic number of 5 implies 5 electrons and 5 protons for a neutral atom. To determine the neutrons we subtract the number of protons from the amu: \[12-5=7\] So we have: 5 protons 5 electrons 7 neutrons
