if the shadow of a pole is 7m high , is half its length, what is the angle of elevation of the sun to correct to the nearest degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arctan(7/3.5) assuming the question is the pole is 7m high, and shadow is half that length ( wording of question is confusing).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the shadow of a pole is 7m high is half its length, what is the angle of elevation of the sun to correct to the nearest degree that is the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I take it this means, the pole is 7m high...because a shadow is long...and therefore the shadow is half that (3.5). This forms a right angle triangle, and therefore we say tan (angle) = 0pposite/adjacent (7/3.5) = angle of elevation., therefore angle = arctan(7/3.5)

which I work out at 63.43 degrees
