lim (x^2 - 6)/(x-8) x->8

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Assuming you meant (x^2 - 64)/(x-8) lim (x^2 - 64)/(x-8) x-> 8 lim ((x-8)(x+8))/(x-8) x-> 8 lim (x+8) x-> 8 8+8 16 So lim (x^2 - 64)/(x-8) = 16 x-> 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, i meant 6 not 64...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if it's (x^2 - 6)/(x-8), then the limit as x--> 8 does not exist because the left and right hand limits are not equal

OpenStudy (angela210793):

Agree with Jim 1st find lim f(x)whn x--> 8+ and then lim f(x) whn x-->8-
