what is kinetic theory
Kinetic theory is also known as kinetic molecular theory and kinetic theory of gasses. It is based upon a few basic assumptions. 1. Gas is a collection of small particles that are randomly moving in straight lines. 2. The particles are point particles and their volume can be ignored. 3. There are no attractive or repulsive forces between the particles. 4. All collisions are elastic (momentum is conserved). In other words, it behaves as an ideal gas. The theory explains pressure (on the container walls) as the result of collisions of the particles with the wall. It explains temperature as being related to the average kinetic energy if the particles. The theory also has some applications to understanding chemical reactions (collision theory) and also (in modified form) to the undertanding of the interaction of' 'particles' in the states of matter.
