show that the foll: points are collinear using distance formula. A (6,2) ,B (2,-3) and C (-2,-8).Help!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

colinear aint proved by distance

OpenStudy (amistre64):

all point equi distance from a single point forms a circle ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3 equal length lines can form a triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thx but this problem is based on AC square = AB square +BC square.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(6,2) (2,-3) (-2,-8) -6-2 -6-2 -6-2 ------------------ 00 <-4,-5> <-8,-10> <4,5> and 2<4,5> are at least parallel

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if the distance between you farthest points is equal to the distance between the sum of the distances from the end outer points to the middle point; they are in line

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so you need to determine the 3 sets of distances between each point with the others. then compare the data. if the smaller numbers add up to the larger, your a straight line

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its a triangle thrm all over again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thx .formula is d= square root of (x2-x1) +(y2-y1). the pythagoras theorem.
