What is the dipole moment of benzanilide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes i googled it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The dipole moment will be at the carbonyl carbon towards the more electronegative element (O) there is also another dipole towards the N. I believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the number in debyes (D)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. I'm not even sure how to really calculate that. Sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I drew the molecule in Avogadro. The program estimates the dipole moment to be 3.924 D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would would calculate that without a computer program though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know that you can... There are a lot of complex forces at work. Avogadro is free, though. :-)
