A hallow sphere of radius 0.25m is rotating at 13 rad/s about an axis that passes through its center. The mass of the sphere is 3.8kg. Assuming a constant net torque is applied to the sphere, how much work is applied to bring the sphere to a stop?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1/2)*I*\[\omega ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The amount of work will be equal to the sphere's initial kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of a rotating object is \[KE=1/2*I*\omega^2\] where I is the moment of inertia of the object. In the case of a hollow sphere\[I=2/3*m*r^2\]
