why is argon used in a light bulb? using the terms of the electronic structure of an argon atom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Argon is a "noble gas" - it is in group 8 on the periodic table. It has a full valent (outer) shell of electrons, meaning it is unreactive. This is useful in a lightbulb, because it means it will not react with the filament even under such intense heat, thus protecting the filament and making it last longer.
