OpenStudy (aravindg):

4. A block of mass 2 kg rests on the floor. The coefficient of static friction is 0.4. What is the force of friction between the block and the floor when a horizontal force P of (i) 2 Newton Iii) 8 Newton is applied.(Suppose g to be equal to 10 metre/sec2).

OpenStudy (jamesj):

What is the formula for friction?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

mew*N

OpenStudy (jamesj):

And in magnitude N = mg. Thus\[\max \ of \ F_f = \mu m g = ...\]

OpenStudy (jamesj):

max force of friction = (0.4)2(10) = 8 N Hence when 2 or 8 N of force is applied, it canceled out by the force of friction, 2 and 8 N respectively but in the opposite direction
