hey guys. I have a chemistry question...anyone want to help? I have raw data and then calculation questions..? calculating the number of Mg and O2 in a product.
complete the question plz
ok. i have the mass of Mg and O2 = .485 and the mass of O2 = 36.033
i have to calculate the number of moles in the Mg and the number of moles in O2. I know how to convert the moles. But Im not sure I got the masses right.
U DOIT ILL CHECK
A crucible and lid weighs 17.773g. My Mg weighs .296g. and after heated Mg into the crucible, my crucible, lid, and Mg weighs 18.260g. After heated and cooled again, my crucible, lid and Mg weighs 18.258g.
so, to calculate the mass of the product containing Mg and O2, I took 18.258-17.773 and got 0.485g for my answer
then to calculate the mass of O2, i took 17.773+18.260 and got 36.033
to calculate the moles: I took 36.033 O2 and divided it by 16.00= 2.25 mol oxygen.
then, to calculate the moles of Mg: I took 0.296 divided by 24.31= 0.012 mol Mg.
Does this look correct??
Okay so in this post: "A crucible and lid weighs 17.773g. My Mg weighs .296g. and after heated Mg into the crucible, my crucible, lid, and Mg weighs 18.260g. After heated and cooled again, my crucible, lid and Mg weighs 18.258g." When you say "Mg" do you mean your product containing both Mg and O2? Also this: "then to calculate the mass of O2, i took 17.773+18.260 and got 36.033" doesn't sound right, why did you add the mass of the crucible?
