how do you integrate x/e^x ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\int\limits x e^{-x} dx \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u = x du= dx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dv = e^(-x) dx --> v= -e^(-x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[= uv - \int\limits (v du) = -xe^{-x} - \int\limits (-e^{-x})(dx) \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[= -xe^{-x}-e^{-x} +C = -e^{-x}(1+x) = -\frac{1+x}{e^{x}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+C for the last step, I forgot to carry it over.

thank you :)
