when a small amount of water is added to AlCl3, what are the products?

I guess you are talking about anhydrous aluminium chloride..... The structure of solid aluminium chloride is complex and temperature dependent. At room temperature, with water it simply behaves like any other covalent metallic chloride and is hydrolysed. If a small amount of water - a few drops - is added to anhydrous aluminium chloride there is a hissing sound and hydrogen chloride gas is given off as steamy acidic fumes.
