A person of weight 4.80 x 10^2 N stands on a scale in an elevator. What will the scale read when the elevator is accelerating downward at 4.00 m/s^2?

How does this new open study work D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The difference of the gravitational force and the force of the elevator. So, Net Force =m(g-a). Solve for m by dividing the weight by 9.80m/secsqr.

you annot apply newtons 2nd law in an accelerating ie a noninertial frame of reference so there is a method by which we can convert it into a inertial one,we tale a "pseudo force "=P=-ma....where m=mass a=acceleration on the system ..so we can write for the frame of the elevator mg-ma=N(n=normal force measured by the scale).... we can also solve it from outside frame of reference which is inertial in that case...mg-N=ma...finding N is easy i know you can do it yourself
