Could someone give me an in-depth explanation about parts per million? All I know is that it is used to measure concentrations in a solution, that and the formula (solute mass/solution mass x 10(6) = PPM. Any and all help is appreciated.

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Well if you think of the name "parts per million" it literally means the number of grams (or whatever) in a million. Basically you want to find the amount of grams of your solute in a million grams of your solution. So your formula is solute mass divided by solution mass multiplied by a million. This has a nice example on it: http://www.iun.edu/~cpanhd/C101webnotes/aqueoussolns/ppmppb.html
