why the atomic radius of zinc is greater than copper?

OpenStudy (yash2651995):

In transition elements, electrons are added to d-orbitals.. not to valance shell.. this increases shielding effect.. thus repelling the valance shell.. thus causing the atomic size/radius (nucleus to valance shell electron distance) to increase (or just stay approximately same) in transition elements while going from left to right in a period.. thus atomic size (or atomic radius) of Zn is greater than Cu.
