if its the fraction that is confusing you then just multiply the entire equation by 4 to get rid of it and solve:\[x^2+16x-16=0\]

yes its the fraction, so why 4?

because 4 is the denominator of the fraction in:\[\frac{x^2}{4}+4x-4=0\]

for example, suppose we write:\[\frac{3}{4}+\frac{1}{4}=1\]then we can simply multiply both sides by 4 to get:\[3+1=4\]do you understand?
